Is Your Cup Full?

Updated: Jan 2, 2021

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.

Why did you spill the coffee?

‘Because someone bumped into me!!!’

Wrong answer! Read more

You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.

Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.

~ Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out. ~

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it - until you get rattled.

~ So we have to ask ourselves... ‘what's in my cup?’ ~

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?

Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?

Life provides the cup, and YOU choose how to fill it.

Cups can be filled with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Knowing that everything is impermanent can also prevent over spilling, choose to -

· Let go of comparing

· Let go of judgements

· Let go of anger

· Let go of regrets

· Let go of worrying

· Let go of blame

· Let go of guilt

· Let go of fear

At the end of the day, all battles are with yourself.

Are you able to be a ‘bucket filler’ for a day, and then another day and another?

Paul’s advice in Philippians 4:8 is so powerful: ‘Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—think on these things.’

‘For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.’ Proverbs 23:7

What works for you? I would love to know your thoughts so make a comment!

If you are finding it difficult to change that heart attitude so that you can be a bucket filler, do contact me for a chat (below).
